При всех четырех типах близорукости (миопии) необходимо тщательно осматривать центральные и периферические отделы сетчатки, чтобы не пропустить «опасных» в отношении отслойки сетчатки дистрофий.

Их всего 4-5 видов и 4-5 видов «не опасных» дистрофий.

При близорукости на сетчатке часто бывают опасные дистрофии. Например, разрыв сетчатки - из-за него может развиться ее отслойка

Такие «опасные» дистрофии требуют консультации лазерного хирурга и укрепления их с помощью лазеркоагуляции. Только после этого можно решать вопрос о лазерной коррекции близорукости или характере родоразрешения у беременных.

При очень высоких степенях близорукости (2-й склеродегенеративный тип) довольно часто в зрелом возрасте возникают дистрофические изменения в центре сетчатки, которые могут приводить к резкому снижению зрения и инвалидности. Они требуют отдельного подхода к лечению.
