About the service

Ambliokor uses video-computer training with biofeedback. It may supplement care for amblyopia and selected functional problems while maintaining the ophthalmologist’s primary treatment plan.

Who the service is for

Confirmed amblyopia

Patients with amblyopia when the ophthalmologist includes device-based pleoptic training in the treatment plan.

Residual functional deficit

Cases where accurate optical correction has been provided but a visual deficit remains and additional training is considered.

Children able to cooperate

Children who can follow the visual task and tolerate signal recording. The minimum age must be confirmed by KazRIED.

Adolescents

Treatment may be considered individually, particularly in previously untreated or residual amblyopia.

Adults

In selected cases, device-based visual rehabilitation may be used in adults, but the expected effect and indications are assessed individually.

Assessment before choosing treatment

KazRIED determines the exact number and frequency of sessions after examination.

Individual training plan

There is no universal course for every patient.

Limitations and safety

Ambliocor does not correct refractive error by itself. Prescribed glasses or contact lenses remain the basis of correction.

Stages

Stage 1

Ophthalmic consultation

The clinician establishes the cause of reduced vision, previous treatment and treatment goals.

Ophthalmic consultation

Service benefits

Training with feedback

The method uses biofeedback to work on visual functions as part of a prescribed course.

Engagement in treatment sessions

Video-based training helps structure the patient's participation; the programme is selected according to age and diagnosis.

Combining treatment with suitable correction

The treatment plan considers glasses or contact lenses so visual tasks are performed with appropriate correction.

Monitoring changes in vision

Repeat measurements allow progress to be assessed and the plan adjusted using objective findings.

How does Ambliokor work?

Ambliokor is a form of device-based pleoptic therapy. During a session, the patient watches video content while electrodes record the brain’s bioelectrical activity.

The software uses this signal to control the visual stimulus through biofeedback. The patient performs an interactive visual task, and the clinician assesses the outcome in the context of the underlying diagnosis.

What role does it play in amblyopia treatment?

Amblyopia treatment begins with addressing or correcting the cause of visual deprivation and providing accurate optical correction. If this is insufficient, standard treatment may include patching, atropine, filters, or digital methods.

Ambliokor may be used as an additional pleoptic component if the ophthalmologist considers it appropriate.

What does training involve, and how is the outcome assessed?

The training does not require surgery, takes place in a controlled format, and may be included in an individualized vision rehabilitation program.

Effectiveness is assessed using measurable outcomes: visual acuity in each eye, refraction, fixation characteristics, binocular functions, and other parameters selected by the clinician. A subjective feeling that vision has improved is insufficient to assess the outcome.

Preparing for a session

Noninvasive.

The patient is seated in front of a monitor, recording electrodes are placed, and the signal quality is checked. The clinic determines the specific setup.

Treatment course and monitoring

As prescribed by the clinician.

Sessions follow an individualized schedule. The clinic determines their number and frequency after an examination.

Additional advice and situations

Refractive measurement

Recheck monocular visual acuity and refraction.

Checking the current prescription

Decide whether optical correction should remain unchanged or be updated.

Amblyopia treatment

For amblyopia, decide whether patching, atropine, filters or other therapy should continue.

Binocular-vision assessment

When strabismus is present, reassess binocular function and ocular motility separately.

Myopia progression control

For progressive myopia, maintain a separate axial-length and myopia-control plan rather than substituting a device course.

Ambliokor treatment at KazRIED

Ambliokor treatment at KazRIED is not a universal way to “restore vision,” but a specific pleoptic method used within an individualized ophthalmic care plan.

Before the treatment course, the clinician clarifies the cause of reduced vision, checks the optical correction, and determines which function needs training.

During a session, the system uses a video stimulus and biofeedback based on recorded bioelectrical activity.

After the course, the outcome is assessed using objective measures. Further management is determined by the diagnosis and changes over time.

Frequently asked questions

What is Ambliocor?
Ambliocor is a video-computer system using biofeedback that may be used as part of clinician-prescribed pleoptic treatment.
How does biofeedback work?
During a visual task, bioelectrical activity is recorded and used by the system to control the visual stimulus, creating a repeated feedback-based training cycle.
Is it just watching cartoons or videos?
No. Video is used as a visual and motivational stimulus, while an important part of the method is physiological signal recording and feedback-based adjustment of the visual stimulus.
Do the electrodes send electricity into the eye or brain?
In biofeedback treatment, electrodes are used to record bioelectrical activity. They are not used to electrically stimulate the eye.
What is Ambliocor used for?
Ambliocor may be used as part of pleoptic treatment for amblyopia and selected functional visual disorders. Suitability is determined by an ophthalmologist after examination.
