О хирургическом лечении катаракты следует подумать тогда, когда катаракта снижает зрение настолько, что это мешает вам вести привычный образ жизни и выполнять вашу обычную работу.

Вы вместе с вашим врачом должны решить, когда целесообразно делать операцию. Для людей, ведущих активный образ жизни, водящих автомобиль, много читающих – удаление катаракты может потребоваться на более ранних стадиях её развития. Для людей, которые мало читают и не водят машину, операция может потребоваться позже.

При хирургическом лечении катаракты помутневший хрусталик удаляется из глаза и замещается искусственным. Это позволяет не только восстановить прозрачность оптических сред глаза, но и его фокусирующие способности. В большинстве случаев операция удаления катаракты и имплантации искусственного хрусталика (внутриглазной линзы – ИОЛ) позволяет полностью восстановить зрение.
