Как катаракта вызывает снижение зрения?

Из-за наличия помутнения в хрусталике ребенок не получает четкого изображения на сетчатке, что ограничивает полноценное развитие зрительного органа и вследствие может привести к амблиопии (снижению зрения одного или двух глаз, в результате неправильного развития зрительного органа в младенчестве или детстве), иными словами «ленивому глазу».

Исходя из этого, для предотвращения потери зрения важное значение имеет раннее диагностирование врожденной катаракты и своевременное проведение лечения, в большинстве случаев хирургическим способом. В отличие от детей, у взрослых пациентов после удаления даже длительно существовавшей катаракты острота зрения может быть снова высокой, так как орган зрения был уже полноценно развит.

Врожденную катаракту принято классифицировать по локализации помутнений хрусталика. В норме в хрусталике различают ядро и кортикальные массы, заключенные в капсулу хрусталика.
